30 Days of Pictures: Day Four, Making Miracles

Day four: A picture of something you'd like to do again
(Ok so I may not actually be completing this project in 30 consecutive days, but hey it's the effort that counts!)

If you know me, you know I'm bad at picking out one single thing when I'm asked to. Something that I'd love to do again is have the chance to visit St. Jude and to begin volunteering for the organization again. In college I was involved with Up 'til Dawn which was a student organization that raised money and awareness for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I worked with an amazing group of student leaders and together we raised tens of thousands of dollars to help the patients at St. Jude. And below is the total that was raised in just our second year on campus! We had a blast working together as you can see from us playing chubby bunny at our finale event my junior year.

Every year, St. Jude pays for two members of every Up 'til Dawn group to attend a Collegiate Seminar in Memphis, TN where you learn more about how to better your organization, more about the cause in general, and we were actually able to see the hospital and the patients. It's a cause that I'll continuously spread awareness of, if you haven't heard of it I suggest you check it out!

30 Days of Pictures: Day Three, "I'll Be There For Youuu"

Day three: A picture of the cast from your favorite show

My favorite show of all time is FRIENDS. Even though I was a little young when it started, I constantly watched re-runs and new episodes during high school. I've gone back through and watched the entire series and still can't get enough. KMK from my post yesterday owns all 10 seasons, it's dangerous. Great story line, lots of love triangles, comedy, drama and many great quotes.

My personal favorite episode of all time is The One Where No One's Ready. If you're not familiar with FRIENDS, all episode titles begin with "The One Where...".

This episode produced many great quotes such as "New or old? NEW OR OLD?!!" "I'm catching up on my correspondence" "The cushions are the essence of the chair!" "Hi I'm Chandler, could I beeee wearing any more clothes?" and the classic "Glass of fat?"

If you haven't watched FRIENDS before, first I'll gasp, second are you American? but third, please turn on TBS at 4:30pm EST daily and start enjoying!

30 Days of Pictures: Day Two, Besties

Day two: A picture of you and the person you have been closest with the longest

This is me and Ms. KMK. I have known her since 6th grade and we've been inseparable since high school. I don't think there's a thing the girl doesn't know about me, and I can count on her to be there for anything from boy troubles to talking me through my taxes. I'm lucky to have a best friend that's also a CPA. While we haven't lived in the same state for almost six years now, we're closer than ever.

The picture I chose is from the trip to Las Vegas all my friends from home took this past September for our friends wedding. I love it because it shows a lot of personality...and the bride is going crazy in the background.

Have you talked to your longest/closest friend lately?

30 Days of Pictures: Day One...Arg!

So at the beginning of the year I saw a lot of people on Facebook starting this "30 Day Challenge" of photos. I never really looked into what exactly they were doing, but as I saw more and more pictures come across my newsfeed with great captions that were sharing cool facts about my friends. I always find things like this to be interesting--yes I was unfortunately one of those people that liked all of those little quizzes on Facebook that people would tag you in. I like things that make me think and reflect on what's important in my life.

I feel like this photo challenge will also help me to take a few minutes out of everyday for myself. It will get me blogging more. It will make me bring up old memories. It will give me a sense of routine...for at least a month. With having such a crazy and hectic schedule lately I want to use this to stay a little balanced.  Don't worry I'll still make sure to give some posts on all of the fun things I'll be doing over the next month, and yes I still owe you my NOLA Mardi Gras experience!

So here it goes...

Day One: A picture of yourself with 12 facts.

(I think this picture is hilarious, it's from Spring Break senior year of college in Key West--I was channeling my inner pirate)

1. Thank you's from students mean more than any tangible gift or payment every could
2. I once served ice cream to Dakota Fanning
3. My favorite band of all time is Coldplay
4. I like to watch Family Guy to de-stress
5. I only started making my bed every morning this school year
6. I'm talented at recognizing license plates from far away (too bad that's not useful)
7. I'm proud to be a Tri Sigma and being a member has changed my life for the better
8. I once was in five states and four time zones in one day
9. I am extremely efficient at airport security
10. If you don't use your blinker, I honk at you
11. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up
12. My happy place is a sunny day, windows down, music blaring

Hump Day Hope...In a Can

Ok, so maybe it's not in a can but I just didn't think that plastic container sounded as catchy right? Or I guess I could have also said a cup. This Wednesday morning my hump day hope is coming from my dear friend caffeine. As I've given up Diet Coke for Lent (cue gasp) I'm solely relying on coffee these days. I'm really not as bad with it in the mornings as you would think, I've found I'm much more of an afternoon coffee drinker.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm slightly obsessed with Starbucks. I can't get enough and with the whirlwind of grad school I've been going like three times a week. My mom knows when she gets me something to get a gift card, or now just reload my rewards card--those things are so convenient!

Sometimes I just don't feel like dealing with the process (and more so the cleanup) of actually making coffee in the morning. And sometimes I just want something more creamy and frothy. I have used the Starbucks Via's and I absolutely love them, especially the flavored kind. The iced coffee version didn't work out too well for me, picture a murky brown liquid with coffee crystals floating among the ice. I think I didn't follow the directions correctly.

While I was at the store grabbing some honey, which I can't stop putting on everything these days, I passed by the coffee and this gem caught my eye. I'm typically wary of instant coffees but it's great. Hill's Bros Skinny Latte in French Vanilla...and with only 100 calories!

I finally tried it out this morning and it was absolutely delicious, the perfect amount of sweetness and creamyness. And it mixed very well. So if you need something fresh and new in the ways of your caffeine intake, I highly suggest trying it out. It would even be something great to keep stashed in your desk at work.

And as per hump day hope tradition, I'll leave you with a wonderful quote (or two)...

"No one can understand the truth until he drinks of coffee's frothy goodness."
-Sheik Abd-al-Kadir
"I believe humans get a lot done, not because we're smart, but because we have thumbs so we can make coffee." -Flash Rosenberg

Top 5...Dresses I Dream of for Cup

I know I still need to get you information on my adventures in NOLA for Mardi Gras, but wanted to do a little something fun in the middle of all of the work that seems to be piled on top of me this week. As I'm still on the search for a dress for Carolina Cup, quickly approaching next Saturday, I decided to do some online window shopping for my top picks I would love to wear.

While I already had a dress in mind that I already own, of course I'm using this as another excuse to shop. But hey, I'm getting a pretty decent tax refund and am rewarding myself for all of the craziness grad school has brought to my life.

So with no further adieu...

5. Ricci Shift  in Bright Navy Look Lady
While I typically fall in love with Lilly dresses that are bright and colorful full of pinks, oranges and yellows, this one caught my eye. With navy now a main color on my horizon, and yellow as my classic favorite this would be a cherished dress, especially with the fancy neckline. But I just couldn't imagine not wearing any pink to Cup!

4. Margot Shift in Classic Floral White Trellis
Simple. Classic. Pink. I absolutely love shift dresses and this would be something great I could also then wear to work with a cardigan. Unfortunately I don't particularly think my skin is in any condition to be forced upon sporting a white dress just this yet.

3. Wyatt Dress in Multi Peel and Eat
Funky and chic. My favorite animal for ages has been flamingos and when I saw this at the store the other day I nearly went crazy over this print. While it's fun and has just enough pink in it, I'm not sure if I can pull off the print. It's definitely a bold choice and one I'm not quite sure I'm willing to make.

2. Bowen Dress  in Classic White Floral Trellis
In the same print as it's shift twin as my #4 pick, we now have it transformed. I really like how there's print on the dress but it's not completely covered. Similar to the shift, the white i just an issue for me right now. But I would absolutely love to have this in my closet, it would be perfect for summer occasions.

1. Chloe Dress in Hotty Pink  First Impression
And the winner is...Chloe! I love love love this dress. I saw it at the store here in Columbia, but it was offered in a different print that I cannot find online that made it look even more amazing. I'm really getting into the one shoulder dresses and this one was perfect. Even if I can't find that other print again I would happily purchase this one. The bold print is big which I feel gives it a more elegant look. And with the different shades of pink, it would match perfectly with my pink derby hat.

Stay tuned to see what I will end up wearing, there will be plenty of pictures. Have a wonderful Tuesday and if you need a little break...take yourself online window shopping, it will do wonders to your mood!

Spring Cleaning

Nope not my apartment. And not my car. Well actually I do need to clean the car. But right now what needs a little spring cleaning is my body.

I started out this semester strong with exercising and eating well, and it's all gone down hill since then. I've started religiously drinking soda and coffee again and towards spring break found myself making lots of bad food choices because I just felt like it was time to give up.

After going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras (post to come soon on that trip!), and eating our way through the city it's time to get my act together. I think I ate my weight in beignets, beans & rice, fried seafood and sugary slushy drinks. Even here in Columbia I can't seem to get my hands off of soda, cupcakes and anything else that has no nutritional value.

I'm heading to bed early after a long weekend and break so I can wake up early and work out. And then hopefully put something decent in my body. I need a good cleanse, and hopefully giving up fried food and soda for Lent will help. I'm also going to start trying to eat less meat. Need to strive for those high numbers of fruits & veggies everyday, let's see how this goes.

I've really been neglecting the blog, but life has been crazy and I'll get back to that later when I also share my Mardi Gras tales. I hope everyone is having a great March so far and if you had, are currently on, or still waiting for spring break, I hope you enjoy it wherever you are!
