Eight Days of Coldplay

Happy July friends! I've been waiting for this month for a long time...

In seventh grade I started my habit of always having music on while I got ready for school in the mornings. Typically I would turn on MTV, because they used to actually do things like play music videos. On a music station? Fancy that!

One morning Coldplay's video for Yellow came on and I was immediately mesmerized. I love the song, I loved the video, and I definitely loved Chris Martin walking along a softly lit beach. Maybe one day he could take me for a walk there too? He was obviously, singing every lyric just for me.

I immediately got their Parachutes album, and would listen to it on repeat in my bedroom for hours. Yes, I was that girl. Every time they came out with a new album I had it immediately, and was excited to finally pre-order their latest album, Mylo Xyloto, on iTunes and receive it at midnight upon its release.

As soon as I first heard them, I knew I'd have to see them in person some day. Being an international band this made things tricky as they always seemed to playing anywhere other than the United States. I almost got to see them in 2005, but it's along story involving a jerk of a guy I should have never been involved with. End of story is he took another girl with tickets purchased specifically for me. Shame.

Though their sound has changed throughout the years they've continued to be a soundtrack for my life. After staying up for 48 hours studying for the GRE senior year of college, I took the test, got to my car and Fix You was on the radio. My deliriousness and exhaustion mixed with the song and I had a good cry as I drove home and then slept for an entire day.

My first semester of grad school I stayed up on campus until 3:00am one morning of finals week with a friend finishing papers for our History of Higher Ed. class. As I pulled into to park at my apartment the radio (99.3 Columbia-I miss it already!) debuted Christmas Lights and as tired as I was I sat there in my car to listen to the entire thing before heading inside. And downloading it immediately the next morning.

They're a group with sound for any occasion, happy or sad. I can probably find a Coldplay song to go with anything. You can bet your bottom dollar I'll walk down the aisle to a string quartet version of Yellow, also because I pretty much despise church music and organs (no offense).

Hey girl, the colors shine for YOU!

So the point of my incessant ramblings and obsession? I am finally going to see Coldplay next Sunday in DC! When I heard they were touring late last fall I knew I didn't care how much I was going to have to pay, I was  going to see them damn it. It's the most I've ever paid for a concert and it will for sure be worth every penny.

Got these babies on StubHub, I wish I paid that much

I therefore dub this next week the eight days of Coldplay! Beginning now I am having a marathon of Coldplay all day everyday, good luck Mr. Charming. All albums, all singles, live versions, anything and everything to get pumped for this next weekend. It may seem like a smaller thing on my life list, but it's one of the bigger ones and I cannot wait to check it off!
